Touch Topaz to get the Party started as Parrot launch first NFC-enabled speaker
Thursday 1st May, 2008
You might think NFC only relates to the mobile phone handsets and mobile payments, but now NFC is coming to the world of wireless audio accessories. Parrot has announced the launch of the Parrot Party Black Edition, which they claim is the first commercialised speaker system to integrate Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
The technology used is the Topaz NFC Type 1 standard-mandated tag from Innovision Research & Technology plc. All the consumer needs to do is touch their Nokia 6212 NFC mobile phone to the Parrot Party speakers to set up the Bluetooth connection and play music out of the speakers. The NFC tag built into the speaker performs the pairing automatically, removing the need to go through pairing menus, particularly useful if there are a number of Bluetooth devices in range.
The speakers will also pair with other Bluetooth devices such as MP3s although without Topaz NFC you’ll still need to go through menus to pair up.
Topaz tag samples are available in a variety of formats from Innovision now; the Parrot Party Black Edition will be available in the summer of 2008.
