Principal/Senior Mixed Signal IC Designer
Location: Cirencester
Reports to: Director of IC Design
Purpose:
To define & design mixed signal IC devices for wireless and Near Field Communication (NFC) data communications. At Principal Designer level this may also include technical leadership and people management responsibility.
Main accountabilities:
1. Definition of architectures, design of Mixed-signal IC devices and development of NFC and other wider RFID techniques and technologies. Interacting with other IRT staff, partners, customers and suppliers to capture product specifications and ensure timely delivery of compliant products.
2. Provide input to the project planning process by defining tasks and estimating task timing and feasibility; also managing progress on tasks, resolving issues and ensuring timescales are met.
3. Contribute to discussions with suppliers and partners by assessing technological data and needs and by disseminating information in verbal or written form.
4. Writing reports and specifications and implementing procedures for effective communications and information management. Document work as required by the Company ISO 9001 system and maintain clear records of work (e.g. log book). Produce detailed technical summary reports of work as required.
5. Team leadership (Principal level) includes: defining IC architectures, group technical requirements, work practices and training; working with customers in technical negotiations; also to direct the group’s work/tasks to achieve timescales, functionality and objectives.
6. Contribution to technical innovation and IP programme
Scope of role:
The design of innovative ICs is a specialist field of expertise and, as such, the Company is reliant on the jobholder successfully delivering IC products for use in customer solutions. Knowledge of the development process from specification through to layout is expected.
Principal IC Designer is a leading design authority, also contributing expertise in the wider context on a range of technology issues. Leadership of IC Design team and managing the achievement of project goals are the responsibility of the Principal Designers in a Project Technical Lead role. Senior Designers will undertake most aspects of this job description.
Preferred qualifications, competencies, and experience:
· Essential technical skills and experience:
o The whole IC design process – from specification, through design and verification (both pre and post layout) to GDS2
o Mathematical ability to deal with systems in the s and z domain
o Analogue & mixed-signal design
o Knowledge of Cadence or Mentor analog, RF and mixed signal design flows
· Desirable technical skills:
o NFC and RFID analogue front end design (layout experience is highly desirable but not essential)
o Library & Design Kit assessment, design & integration
o System level design methodology/tools such as Matlab and VHDL-AMS
o Digital design using VHDL
· Excellent personal organisation and effective utilisation of all resources to meet project deadlines.
· Good judgement and decision making in finding innovative solutions and follow through of commitments.
· Good verbal and written communication skills for reports, plans, documents, correspondence, log book records, and dealing with team colleagues, customers, suppliers or partners in many varied situations.
· Technical leadership and innovative approach to problem solving and achievement of results.
